Today, I give remembrance for my father who fought for the ARMY in WII on Okinawa. He was lucky and didn't die on that Island, and came back to the States to give raise to 5 kids of which I'm the youngest. He passed away in Sept 2013 at 89.9 years old. I miss him everyday.
God Bless all USA Armed Forces who gave their life and are no longer with us during war and after. HOOOOah
Know where you knife is...always.

Yes, God bless all of our veterans. Past and present. My father fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Pretty tough guy. Ed B

God bless your fathers, Eladerman & Eddie, & all other brave heroes! Anyone catch the annual show on TV where they salute the veterans, fallen & wounded, telling their accounts? Pretty poignant stuff! Might be @ the National Monument? Good show always.

RIP to all fallen soldiers, deceased/KIA/MIA. I always call my father on Mem Day too, because he's a combat vet, he lost some good friends along the way.

Paternal Grandfather was in the EU Campaign. Won several silver and bronze stars, and made it to Sgt I think. He landed in Normandy and, per my father (whom he told drunk, since he never talked about WWII), he killed upwards of 40 Germans in a single day during the initial Allied invasion. He also fought in Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He was everywhere you didn't want to be. A great boxer in the Army, EOD specialist, machinist, tank expert...he wore many hats. He also set the timing on WWII fighter planes, so the guns would fire between the propellers. I wish I had his offiical service history. We never requested it, prob lost in the "fire" with a million others. My maternal grandpa was in the Air Force, he was a AF-MP and served in France and Germany. Not as storied of a tour, but still cool to know your forefathers did their part.

Very impressive family history! Try to get your grandpa's records. You never know.

Impressive lineage corjzg. My dad was sent to Okinawa at 18 and over 13 men manning the anti-aircraft M50's. He also had a bronze star and many other commendations and awards like machine gun expert , expert marksman, etc. He was one tough dude as well. He never like talking about the war much, and he refused to watch "Saving Private Ryan" when I told him what is was about. It was just too painful, and brought back too many unpleasant memories of pop's fallen comrades.

We must be of similar age. My father also served in WWI in the India theater. He also recently passed at age 90 in November 2014. Can't be many left by now as he enlisted at age 18.

Well, we probably all have some similar stories. I learned about respect in the first grade. My mother and I were in the kitchen, she said something to me and I said huh? Bad answer! My father had come home early and I didn't realize he was standing behind me. He backhanded me so hard it threw me against the wall. When I was finally able to get up he said "don't you ever talk to your mother like that again." So every since then I have treated everyone I meet with dignity. I also believe the world could use a little more of the hard ass approach. Just my opinion. Ed B

Don't worry Ed the world will be most likely be having a sooner than I'd like bad experience and a cultural and social shock is probably going to happen. I hope all of you out there are teaching those younger, the ways of survival....i.e., how to catch fish, and hunt rabbits and squirrels, not in a crazy over obsessed prepper way, but in a common sense way. Good luck and God Bless!
